Fantastic favorites from you all, and excellent idea, Joe, for crating this thread:woot:
As often, my fav buy of the year is the latest one...;)
So, there is a 1850's French gilded silver (boar's head hallmark), river pearls, foiled paste stones and black enamel with white dots.
Heavy and comfy to wear, concealed hook clasp.
All links needed some enamel repair;) Resized_20181203_123428.jpeg Resized_20181203_123515.jpeg Resized_20181203_122611.jpeg

I had to really ponder this question ! As someone else stated, every new find is my "favorite" ! Ive been lucky in 2018 and found lots of beautiful things, but after much reflection I have to say this fellow is truly my favorite (of this year) .He's not the most lovely thing, nor particularly well done, but he makes me smile every time I look at him.

Didn't buy much year, having missed a number of sales on account of medical issues, but this Weller Baldin bud vase was my favorite purchase, hands down.

It was love at first sight for this shabby chic, Victorian style colosseum mantle clock. It’s not antique but it is vintage. And it’s gorgeous on my fireplace mantle!

However, I now lean toward this 246 piece set of Buccellati Borgia sterling flatware from Hugh Hefners estate.

Well I will just add this. I found an old copy of The Settlement House Cookbook over the summer. I had wanted this book for a long time but never found it at sales.
I went to a garage sale and there it was on the ground waiting for me. The lady having the sale was a sourpuss for sure. Got it for a 25 cents. Now that was a bargain.
I read thru it but can't really use it anymore due to being GF. But lots of recipes for us boomers who had grandmas and grandpas that baked and cooked.
So I sold it but was sad to see it go.

Then just a few weeks ago I found another copy from the 1950's. I hope it too will find a new home.:p

To be fair, you “find” more “Exact images(or damn near close)” online, of what we can not. You are the best at finds.

Favorite pleasant surprise: I bought him thinking, from seller's photos, that he was glass. Other bidders must have had the same perception but a lesser appreciation of glass. He is stone, probably Regency period. Not quite the thrift shop treasures many of you find. Still, topped out well below where it would have if description had been correct.

Favorite seriously silly piece: Later in the year, I came across this guy when doing some research to try to answer an antiquers member's question that involved garnets:

Favorite just plain pretty: This conch shell cameo, dated 1904 on the back, with an episode from Orlando Furioso wins hands down:

Cameotastic finds!!! No matter if they weren't thrifted... a bargain is still a bargain :joyful:

Jivvy the research is my favorite

Granted, I haven't bought much this year, but this little guy makes me smile.

He feels like un-glazed porcelain... he's hollow and his black bits are plastic and wiggly. His nose appears to be attached to his tail.

Shop owner gave him to me -- just for showing an interest. :hilarious:

Can the tail be used as a crank handle? Look like all the wiggly bits are meant to wiggle mechanically.

What an excellent idea, but nope. And I was wrong -- his tail is not connected to his nose.

At least, not any more. :hilarious:

    It's okay, I have glue.
