Could it be wood?

Some elements look similar to this one listed on eBay. If you go through the pics in the listing, you can see where it is signed on the bottom of the stand but I cannot make out what the words are.

Agree, but this is not an area of expertise for me. I look forward to finding out what the learned heads say about this egg. I love learning about stuff like this.

 

I think the bottom word on that eBay one is Moscow, and it does look like it could be from the same maker. This is an example where it's just very difficult to be specific on the basis of photographs.

 

If it is wood, it is likely to be lacquered, with a lacquer decoration.
