Featured Amethyst (glass?) necklace and Bohemian garnet brooches

    When in the 20th century would you place this at the earliest? Does it look art nouvaeu to you?

    I think mid-century at the earliest, but there are others who know more about costume jewellery.

    I had to put my computer glasses on to see the lines in the back. I'd say 70s too, now that I can see what I'm doing.(LOL) If not later. That might even be a piece of 1928 with the chain missing. 1928 Jewelry Company made and makes takeoffs on Victorian jewelry and pieces from other eras. They aren't exact reproductions, more like inspired-bys.

    Alexandrite glass goes purple in natural or incandescent lighting and blue under fluorescent.

    It was sunset by the time I read this post, so I'll look at it again in broad daylight. However, when I held it to the window, the stone turned more clear than bluish. No trace of purple was left.

    Think, therefore, that amethyst can be ruled out, as it does not show this kind of pleochroism.
