Featured Advice on paying to clean this oil painting

    Before cleaning, it was nice, but sort of blah. Now it pops.

    Did you take it to the folks in Portland?

    I did contact them, but ended up going with this guy I've met at shows a couple times. He owns a gallery and restoration / preservation service just south of Portland. Nice guy and totally forthright.

    What would be your recommendation-- something like a flat black frame? In the past I've bought larger frames and then cut them down myself to fit things I wanted to reframe. They don't always turn out perfectly...

    the trees are the focal point, so I'd go with a bluish / mid grey , to pick up the clouds...or a mid oak shade wood frame to let the yellows and golds be more prominent ....

    you can frame anything in flat black........but I think it's too dark here .
