My grandfather had been hired to organize the clearing of land, specifically forest, somewhere around West Palm Beach for development by a group of investors, doctors, out of Boston. He was an experience lumberman with several sawmills and crews in Connecticut. One Sunday afternoon, mother with her father, mother and brother were having a picnic at a park when in flew a biplane offering rides for about 50 cents. My grandfather took a ride to the worry of my grandmother. Mother said it was thrilling to see that plane and especially to see her father flying.
