Maybe more rough, not that smooth, but as long as it is precious metal, preferably 14 ct and above, no problem. And screwing the backs is easy. At least this is my experience, having in mind that I have super sensitive skin and cannot wear earrings made of base metals, the earlobe gets sour and inflammation starts almost immediately.
