    @Clove I have not found the specific maker's mark online. But my knowledge of the French marking rules tells me that this is silver plated.

    Which mark are you trying to bring to our attention, Fid? The section you linked is for solid silver makers not platers.

    "argenterie" includes silverplated items and is often used for all kinds of flatware.

    I still can't figure out whether the maker's initials start with R or something else. What would you call a 4 leaf clover in French?

    Not sure it's particularly important to ID the maker, but it's always nice to know - it's 'trèfle à quatre feuilles', I checked yesterday and found over 50 registered makers who used that symbol in some form, narrowed it down to few possibilities (if they used the same symbol for plated goods), but there's been no better image posted to clarify the initials...

    I have the feeling that this model - or similar - were also made during the second empire. can't remember where I've seen it before. fate of age - for every thing I know there are 100 slowly disappearing.:)
