So everyone like that gator.....does anyone know what it is or where it's from. As the tag shows it came to me in a box lot at an ethnographic auction. My guess would be Africa....but ?
The winners list is on page 2 of this thread. https://www.antiquers.com/threads/eclectic-giveaways-1-thru-7-read-here-look-there.6849/page-2
I like to see who won, but Bakers, where you sent us, I thought is an "old" draw???? Edit: Unless its Fig???? Nope.....don't think she was even in on it..... I just dunno!!!!!!
Nope - yesterday (Nov 29th) shortly after Komo posted here that the thread was closed. "This" giveaway was #4 of a total of 7. So the winner of #4 was Brad. It did get a little confusing not to have the winner of each lot shown on the lot thread itself, I will admit. Perhaps it might have been clearer that way - or at least to have the "name" of the lot in addition to the number given on the list of winners.
Well as a 1st time gift giver I thought it was clear enough......but hey....even I can goof up a little. I thought since each gift thread was numbered in the title that it would be clear enough......but if you were only watching one thread...???......or when I closed the thread I should have directed everyone BACK to the rules original post for the winners...!! Hummm.......my Bad !!!
& like King pointed out....I even missed # 7...... Well....I'll be better next time !!! Sorry for the confusion..............
Just received my box today and it was a complete surprise. I had totally forgotten about this give-a-way so winning makes it a special surprise. I did not send my address but somehow Santa found a way to get this to me. I love, love, love the Haida bentwood box. I see on the side of the outer box it says crafted by Anne and Charles Gee. Inside there is a card saying Halibut by Leon Ridley. I assume this means that the decoration was done by Ridley and the box by the Gees? My cat really perked up when I blew the whistle. It is Cusco (Cuzco) pottery from Peru. I think the gator is a handle to something with that notch in the mouth. Maybe a fan? Maybe from an old Florida souvenir? The bone keychain has an ulu on it so, in that form, maybe Inuit? I actually have a modern ulu that I use all the time. Best chopping knife ever. I assume the horse is an older Swedish dala horse? Looks like the little pottery man came off of something. Any origin on this? I will have to find something to place him on to or another way to display him. I will use the money clip to house some of my wads of money stashed away. I really like the hammered silver (?) horned animal. This may be the sleeper in the bunch. Any ideas about origin for this? Any way you look at it, I came out like a bandit on this. Thank you for the generous gesture. It is a pleasant surprise and much appreciated.
Seeing as how I've had a rough day with my dad....I'll skip the part where I though winning "this" lot would have been more memorable . Did not everyone comment on that gator ? So be it......I'm happy you're happy !! Yes...on the box. Yes , on the antler backed Inuit Ulu. The buffalo head, and pottery dancer are both Southwest NA. As is the money clip. The horse is unknown to me...... Merry Christmas Brad ! ps...don'r scare the pussy cat !!!
