It was a bit dry reading but the conclusions were universal. It stated that concessions to trade unions caused glass to be too expensive to compete with glass being made in Europe, which eventually caused a lot of British glass houses to close. It seems to me to be the same old story, an industry starts up, workers organize because they are working long hours for not much money. Wages go up, benefits start, hours are more reasonable, lives become better. And then industry in poorer, upcoming areas start up and undercut the established businesses.
