There are a number of people named Louis Capolino, so a working surname, but our name looks like there's another letter before the L.

Interesting choice to have the sitter look at the viewer rather than straight ahead of himself:

Sneaky looking fellow. Have no idea what the real one looks like, but I saw Benedict Arnold!

There is a contemporary "art history" (?) author named Luisa Capodura and she is totally hosing my research efforts. :bucktooth::hilarious:

If you're using Google, go to Tools, select Advanced Search, then put luisa in the field for none of these words.

Copying this over to this page so don't have to do quite so much scrolling back & forth.

An ending in 'uroff' also seems in the realm of phonetic possibility. He makes his lower case Us very distinctively, as 2 vertical strokes with nothing joining them at the bottom. Hard to tell if that's another one where needed for 'uro'

Good find, but definitely not our guy. This is a rather primitive painting commissioned as an ex-voto, an offering in thanks or supplication:

    The inscriptions are in Italian.

what it looks like to me is that the "upstrokes" are missing. So the first lines are the "u" and the third line is the "r".

That's how I would put it together too, if it does indeed say 'uro' or 'uroff'.

This site is absolutely amazing - it saves my drafts, even when I hop back and forth between topics!!

Having the op at the top of each page would cinch it, for me.

I only recently realized I could save drafts at will. Have sometimes lost part of a post by leaving it before the automatic feature kicked in. It would be helpful to have the OP follow along, something that probably sounds easier than it is, unless it could work like a doc header.

In the editing tool bar, the icon that looks like an old style 'floppy' disk, in the second row. :)

I thought headers were annoying on some sites, but that's mostly on sites where posters quote entire posts repeatedly.

As long as I stay logged in, my posts seem to be saved. So I never graduated to the save tool!

If I wrote something really lengthy or complicated, I'd save the text in a text message or email on my phone, or notepad on my Mac - so many workarounds! Now I can just save 'em.
