I spotted another opera singer I remember from childhood (handkerchief #29).

Quoting the New York Times (on-line):
"MARCH 21, 2013 Risë Stevens (emphasis added), the internationally renowned mezzo-soprano who had a 23-year career with the Metropolitan Opera, where she practically owned the role of Carmen during the 1940s and ’50s, died on Wednesday at her home in Manhattan. She was 99."

other than a couple of the names....this collection ...if pieced out....means nothing......
it's seems like one persons travel and social history....and even at that.....if it were dated ,,,it could be followed.....

I don't see how breaking it up will increase it's value...........which to me...at present...is suspect anyways.

A lot of professional information there. Note that she spent much of the mid-30's in Prague, but debuted at the Met in NYC in '38 and then appeared in some films made in Hollywood - so the autograph may have been collected in California.

I'd be interested in the Zane Grey. I was given a collection of his books when I was 8 and I still cherish them. We lived out in the boonies and the lady who took care of me gave them to me.

Didn't read the whole thread, maybe someone already mentioned it, but I'm sure you are aware of how some family names reflect the occupations of ancestors way back in time. Millers ran grain mills, Sawyers ran saw mills, Smiths were blacksmiths, etc. Even most genealogists don't know this but my research has shown that Biggerstaffs were government bureaucrats.

Had to post my Zane Grey books. My ex took them and it took me five years to get them back. It's not a complete set, but they mean a lot to me. IMG_4395 2.jpg

I'm resisting the urge to start buying more Zane Grey books to get the whole set! He wrote too many and I already lack space for the books I have.

Listen to Fred Astaire at the beginning of "Never Gonna Dance" in "Swing Time," singing to Ginger Rogers, before they start dancing. He references Major Edward Bowes.

These must have been autographed by celebrities.

I'm wondering if the original owner, or some group (s)he belonged to, asked for signed hankies from society people in order to make a quilt or something similar, and then raffle it off for charity.

I think more likely a collector of autographs and handkerchiefs.

Still got all but one of these, haven't tried to sell them yet, must get my finger out ;)

Well, a year goes by and I finally decide to sell them. And leave them as a collection rather than split them up :)
