Well if you knew English furniture you'd know these chests did not normally use dovetails since these Chests were at their height in 1650 just when Dovetails were just coming into non-widespread usage in England. Every single one of the many of these chests I've seen were mortise and Tenon joints with wood pegs like this one. I do agree that the lid needs further investigation.
