They probably made that chair for the dumb tourists to take home!

NICE! Someone's mistake was your gain, for sure.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

Over the course of numerous encounters with European traders as early as the seventeenth century, Chokwe chiefs appropriated the design of certain types of Western artifacts. The seats of office, or "thrones," of Chokwe chiefs, with backs, leather-covered seats, and decorative brass tacks, are modeled upon European chairs. The decoration of the chair, however, remains distinctly Chokwe in style. The elaborate figurative scenes depicted on this and other seats of office are designed as symbolic microcosms of life and represent the breadth of a leader's concerns and responsibilities. The back uprights contain scenes from the spiritual aspect of life, including depictions of ancestors or chiefs...

OOPS! I wasn't casting aspersions on the chair, just commenting how it would be uncomfortable to sit in :)

I thought this art nouveau pitcher was just too lovely to pass up. The thrift had it marked for $24.99 US and the tag stated “2pc“ yet the pitcher stood alone. I went over the whole place looking for the matching bowl to no avail. The store marked the pitcher down to $8.99 and I decided to take it. Standing at 12 inches, it will make a beautiful large vase. If the Internet is to be believed, the mark would place it circa 1908-1911. It fits in wonderfully with my living room decor.
    Just had to share!

In "real life", it's more of a golden yellow. :)

Latest clearance I got this Quadruple Golden Casket, Victorian sewing needle case.
One sold at Bonhams for £182 and another is for sale on eBay for £198.

It has a switch at the bottom to select the correct size needle and pushes a section up.

Two large heavy copper pieces of repoussage.

One is a limited edition and was displayed at an exhibition, they were bought back in 1976 for £140.

One is titled Indonesian fruit pickers and the other is Egyptian Queen

The artists were named as Crad & Sella Lewis from Wales.

Sella died in 2015 aged 87, I cannot find a trace of Crad nor any other pieces of their work.

She did not check it properly because I found gold and silver and I can probably get £1 each for the remaining brooches.

I love when they get it wrong :woot:

I bought a very nice Victorian garnet brooch last winter, the seller said she took it to a dealer who said the stones were glass, she said she saw bubbles in the stones. I got it for very little because of that. Later, looking through a loupe I didn't see any bubbles, then my gem tester confirmed they are garnets.

Sold it the first time I had it out for sale :)

    What is this.

    Obviously Swiss made.

    WIT-Fab. Suisse
    Brevet 232780.

I thought it might be an oiler for watches but there is no way to retain oil nor pump it.
