    It's missing its tail-mounted ailerons actually. :)

KoT, you're right. I would have bet money on it being spruce. I just learned the something new for today!

"Originally designated HK-1 for the first aircraft built by Hughes-Kaiser, the giant was re-designated H-4 when Henry Kaiser withdrew from the project in 1944. Nevertheless, the press insisted on calling it the “Spruce Goose” despite the fact that the plane is made almost entirely of birch."

I thought the square windows looked punched, not hand done and this confirms it. That they are not sharp, but are rounded over, seems to support this.

I am surprised they didn't deep draw the whole fuselage as one because it looks weird in two pieces. Perhaps their press wasn't big or strong enough.

You should be able to match and make the ailerons from this last photo. Can you do that?

Ok. Take good straight down and side photos of the tail.
Measure the tail height and width at the fuselage.
    Measure fuselage to the slot.
Measure the slot opening length and the opening's vertical space.

    That might be enough.
Be as accurate as possible since you probably can't make adjustments yourself when you get it.
