Featured “PLEASE HELP I/D”

Matt

    Looks like an upside down drum to me:

    The loop could be for carrying, or for your feet, to keep it securely in position while you are sitting on the ground, drumming away. Just guessing.

    Well thanks again everyone for your replies never would have thought of a drum it’s so small unless you used one finger to drum with but looks like that is what it is. Thanks again everyone. Until the next time. Matt

    A gourd is smooth and has no wood grain. This is carved from a single piece of wood.

    I had a very similar one in the 70s but mine was a gourd and undecorated. Mine was definitely a yak milk jug and was Tibetan. No question on mine as I worked for the major ethnic NY dealer who brought everything back himself. That work makes me think African too but those types of vessels were used in many undeveloped countries.
