Hello everyone, first time here. If anyone could give me any information on this dagger I would really appreciate it. The tag labels it as an “ancient dagger”. The edges aren’t sharp but the tip is. So I’m thinking it could’ve possibly been used for ceremonies. Again, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
Welcome Oldbama. It looks like it is a bronze or brass dagger, possibly a replica of an antique Chinese one. Could you post a closeup of the hilt please?
There is no wear, not even on the hilt where it would be handled. The edges of the blade are blunt. It may not be a replica of an actual antique dagger, but made in the style of. Nice though.
I only know kitchen knives, but one clear indication that it was very likely a replica? The same patina all the way across. Even a buried one would vary a bit. This probably wasn't made to fool anyone, but apparently it did.
is that an antique store....or an estate sale??? the tag on the machete that sez. google it..!!! I wouldn't buy from them....or trust their prices either !!
Am I looking at the actual blade or a scabbard? It doesnt look like any blade I’ve seen. Did you try and hold the “blade” and pull the handle away from it? `If I was there looking at it I could answer my own questions, but I can’t see the critical area well enuf in the photos.
something odd about this dagger. While it had some bronze disease, the rest of the dagger looks like its got a good solid patina. Clearly been cleaned, but without removing the bronze disease. Also the markings dont seem to relate to any history I know (being from the UK). The handle looks part of the cast - thats not really the case with most daggers if they are really old
Hey everyone, I appreciate all of the information. I showed this thread to the antique shop owners. They claimed “those people don’t know what they’re talking about, this is genuine”. Needless to say, I won’t be shopping there anymore. Take care all!
