One i never did serious (only simple sponge), but now i have to.
Looking for a good hard way to clean Zamac from thick moisture by years of hard oxidation and touching. I want to get back the zamac silver shine.
    How to seriously clean zamac?

Would you dare a cleaner with hydrochloric acid in it?
Or would you more advice using acidic substances like lemon juice and vinegar? As mentioned in your link?

I need an agessive way. The whole patine has to go. I want the shiny metal back (as i found IN the connections).

I don't know. The lemon will be acidic, but a weak acid. The baking soda or toothpaste are abrasives. You are dealing with an alloy of zinc and aluminum, neither of which takes very kindly to polish.

If you use a harsher acid, I think there is the possibility of damaging the metal.

There are polishes formulated for aluminum. Maybe you could try one of them.

Whatever approach, sounds like it's mostly elbow grease.

Yeah something like that. Touched to much. Skin fats and juices. You know... :D
Thanks for your help. You gave me directions. Will try something eventually. But a bit lazy, do not feel like hard labour polishing  but if i have to i will.

It looks worn, and lost. But if i get it shiny as it was meanth it will become a beautifull study jugendstil piece in poorman's silver shine. Not much to loose but a lot to gain ;)
    I guess you get me.

Show the piece. It may have been artificially patinated.

That isn't. That's clear. It simply is touched to much in it's existance.
No one artificially creates such ugly hard touching patine :D

But yet thanks for thinking with me!!

I have this figure that I think is pot metal. It has a coating that looks like varnish gone bad. I'd like to spruce it up, but I'm afraid that removing what's there will result in something that looks even worse.

    Omg what a lovely statue!
    Nicely eldered with that patine.

Nah, my pieces patine looks like lost worn plated silver. With unregular soft blurred spots up to blackened surfaces typically where it is touched/grabbed much. Clearly juices wear. I guess you know what i mean.

PS: and sorry i can't put up a picture at this moment, since I just put it away for later treatment. Now to do other things. Christmas to start with. Merry Christmas!

And no, i wouldn't remove the patine from that statue either. Shining won't make it nicer. This looks great.

In person, it looks to be covered in very old oil. Merry Christmas to you as well.
