Would this be considered folk art?

I found this antique painting thrifting. It looks mid to late 19th c, to me. Would this be considered folk art? There is writing on the back, very hard to make out. It was painted in Maine by great grandma Mead, also the name Wallace is legible. Thanks for any info

 

The person had a pretty good idea of how to lay out a scene. The proportions of the cows and boats seem a little off. I would say parts look like folk art and others look like the person may have had some instruction from somebody. I really like how they did the cows. I think it is a nice painting.

 

I especially like the way you see the cows legs under the water. I think an amateur,but not one without a little talent.

 

I would not consider this folk art...

 

Perhaps "naive" would be an appropriate term.

 

Not fully accomplished but... Certainly done by someone with art training. Could well be the copy of another work.

Agree, naive. This was done by someone using established art constructions and materials.
