Featured Worth listing? Jade earrings, broken section

These were in an in-person lot I purchased. Some of the items were quite nice, 14K etc. Some antiques, some from the 1950's.

Question about these earrings. First off, they are broken. For some reason I only seem to have photos of the front, but if you flipped them over you would see that a section in the back broke off which is why that ring is loose. So really can't be worn as is.

Mostly wondering if these just go in a craft drawer or if they would have some resale value for someone to maybe repair, etc. I believe they are jade.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

MAYBE a Pirate would love them!!!! But seriously, SOMEONE is out there to find a use for just about anything in ANY condition....and they ARE NICE! Worth giving it a shot I think, but then I don't list things to sell! They are probably fixable as well!!

They'll be minimal effort and cost to post, so I'd have said worth listing.

Ditto. Nimble fingers can make two very nice pairs out of them.

    Definitely worth listing :)
As an aside I scrolled too quickly and read ‘in person’ as ‘in prison’ and was wonder what shenanigans you had been up to :hilarious:

Might as well list them; jade always finds a buyer!

As for leading people astray.... we jewelry people are always being accused of that. (innocent who-me face)

Been up to some of my usual shenanigans, just not "in-prison" lol!

Awesome, Kyra! I'm so glad I asked. Thank you for sharing this helpful info. Will likely improve the sale to have the "Devil's work jade earrings" term in there! :singing::)

I didn’t see kyras links but I bet you’ll do better than you ever expected possible. My own rule that I’ve made up is that if jade is attached to gold it’s probably worth getting at the right price. Even though it’s a minuscule amount on your earrings and many other pieces it seems there’s a decent standard for Stone/carving quality to bother attaching it to any amount of gold.

Reading about these early 20th century "Devil's work" earrings, I guess the impressive part is that one Jade stone has been carved into three interlocked movable sections. Thus the term "Devil's work", as "no human hands could manage it". (Quoting from the above links.) Well, maybe a marketing term... but don't ask me to carve three interlocked pieces out of one stone, lol. Especially as the final product is feather light weight and fairly delicate. A small amount of pressure would snap any piece of it, which is probably what happened to the one earring. Maybe two people did the carving? The interlocking part and then the decorative?

Hopefully someone can come up with a repair, or use the single one as a pendant.

Your post reminded me that I was wondering whether the top posts were gold. But just noticed a 14K mark on the earring back.

So glad to know the name of these, and also that they are definitely worth listing, even "As Is"! Not going into the craft drawer!

    Thanks Antiquers!

If you think these are clever, look at ivory puzzle balls.
