I was fascinated with occupation/war currency as they can be difficult to obtain especially undamaged. I spent about 6-8 months completing these 2 sets.

The first is a complete Philipeans Japan occupation currency set with emergecy currency from the PI Govt and guerilla notes from the PI and US Govt there. Most are uncirculated except a few of the emergency/guerilla pieces.

2nd is a collection of WW2 Japan Military payment and war currency. Even a gold yen military stock sheet.
I really love the dragon pieces popular and Japan/China notes and coins.

Kind of a side note. My grandfather who passed in 2003 was in a destroyer fighting the Japanese. I remember his stories as a kid. He said they could see the flash feel the heat from one of the 2 A bombs that dropped and they werent close. Plus many other stories.

Unfortunately his died before I had my collection and I never was able to share it with him. not long after he died I obtained a walker half watch, I really wish I could have gave it to him he loved pocket timepieces.

thank you. Im trying not to overload you guys with too much of my trash in one day;)

most of that currency didn't circulate in Japan but actually occupation areas such as French indo china, PI, Hong Kong, Mainland China and other places in Asia.

2 notes in the last 2 pictures are allied propaganda leaflets dropped on Japan to cause civil strife against the Government towards the end of the war. they are the notes with only Japanese written on the back.

You can see them here close to the bottom of the site.

He was a Seaman First Class which means he probably hadn't chosen a rate (job) yet.
Do you not have any of his records or memorabilia?

I was too young at the time. I really have nothing from his days in the war and do not know much other than his stories I heard. He got out of the navy after the war and moved to WV and Tennessee did coal mining many years and worked at a sand plant many years. he worked hard all his life and didn't die with much to show for it as he took care of 5 kids. I assume a gunner because he talked of an incident when he was taking a break from the AA guns.

If you want to learn more you probably can through Military.com on the Buddy Finder.
His general quarters station may have been on the AA. Sometimes they never came off GQ for days at a time so many sailors served many duties.
It is possible he was what is called; 'Striking' for GM - Gunner's Mate.
If you don't have any luck at M.com send me his exact name by conversation message and maybe I can find out something about him.

I have quite a stash of Japanese Invasion money.

The U.S. counterfeited notes throughout the war partly in an attempt to destabilize the local economy , thereby demoralizing the Japanese, and to supply guerillas fighting the Japanese.

With notes not having serial numbers it makes one wonder if they are fakes.

Some of the loose ones from my banknote drawer.

The run of the mill invasion currency is still pretty common but the Philippine guerilla stuff was in demand when I was last doing a lot with banknotes.
I thinnk there is a good book on the subject but I can't remember the title.
