Not exactly furniture, but I don't know where else to put this. Has anyone seen anything like it? It is coming up at a local auction. No photo of the back available. There is a chance, I suppose, that it was not originally made for spoons.

Are those metal rectangles in front of the spoons? And do the rectangles have a way to hold paper labels?

Interesting. Maybe that bird section is part of a emblem or symbol?

That is a good question. I have not seen it in person. I have enlarged a view of the rectangles, and it looks like they are simply stamped decoration, not meant to hold labels that slide in.

I'd call it Kitchen Folk Art.

I don't know, there seem to be a lot of birds in Mexican art shrug emoji smal purple.jpg

There are many Mennonites in Mexico. This may explain the look of it.

That and all metal was imported at that point, all tin anyway. My guess is it's a mix.

Just for the record, it went for $71 + commission. I went to see it. It had some condition issues (some warping and separation of parts), and the spoons did not appear to be original to the set. It was not marked/stamped as being of Mexican origin, though based on the examples I looked at (with your help) it was in the tradition of Spanish and Mexican spoon racks.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like it, but the price seems high, given the condition you mention.

Two people both went after it because Grandma had one? My guess anyway.
