Wasn't sure if "Art" was the right category, this clearly isn't an antique, pottery, etc. so here goes:

Got this at the thrift this week, what do you think? 1960's or 70's maybe? The bottom up to the top of the carved section was created from one piece of wood. The top just above the carved part has a little edge inside as shown in photo #2 from the view inside, so I guess was carefully added during production. For me it is a keeper for a while, but would love to know what era this might be, anything special or just decorative? Teak? Walnut? Thank you for taking a look.

The wood might be iroko, it's a cheaper teak substitute, very distinctive smell when worked (sanded, sawn or planed) but it does look quite teakish.

I have no idea about any other aspect.

Thanks, everyone! Skeezix, usually when you like something it is a good sign!

Johnny, I also had a bit of a Hawaiian vibe from it, and AF thanks for the suggestion on the wood. Will keep researching a bit. Thanks.
