I don't know if this is posted in the correct category but I thought the carving might be scandinavian or NA. This item is just over 36 inches long the post is just over an inch deep and an inch wide at the top. It was bought at a rummage sale and the seller didn't know what it was. There are no fixings or screw holes to attach it to anything so I wondered if anyone had any ideas. Thanks.

I'm getting Asian vibe. Decoration for over a door?

It's about the right width for a door. I thought maybe you could hang something from it using the little indented areas to catch strings so it didn't shift.

Anyone think it's a stylised Ravens head?

It reminds me a bit of Dayak carvings. Not saying it is, but maybe a modern Dayak curtain rail? @Phaik Hooi used to live in Sarawak, maybe she knows.

Possibly to hang altar cloth? I'm thinking I've seen that type of use, but can't remember where from...

Could it have been used to hang a rushnyk?

You get even more if you use "indonesian" instead of "asian": "indonesian carved rods" yields...

Seller says in listing "purchased by me in the 1970s" which in this rare instance I would believe.

It's lovely. I was wondering if it was a curtain rod. Or maybe could be used as the header for a decorated fabric panel?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

And when you do find the right linen, post a picture here so we can see how it looks! Very nice--
