Sorry for posting this in here but there doesn't seem to be a forum for lumps of wood. Please feel free to move it somewhere else if you are a mod.

I picked this up yesterday. I thought it was papier mache at first but I have come to realise it is wood. Google points towards it being Italian. It's a bit tired but still looks quite impressive. I think it is for putting your din dins on.

Yes, Italian, and usually described as "Florentine.". Not sure when it was first produced, but I'm thinking 1960s/70s and they may have been produced for a long time.

    That recent? That surprises me.

Spot on, florentine and relatively recent. I picked up three of these and a mini chest of drawers a few weeks back. They were sold often as tourist pieces, and nice ones.

the turquoise color is less available and does well with certain buyers.... be sure to specify that it is wood - as the more recent ones are plastic/resin and not carved....
