    It looks like a box for a mantel clock at first glance. The hinges and the way the handles are fixed look very modern. It could be something Asian that an oriental shop would sell.

    Grape vines are not normally an Asian decor element. Container for wine (or other) bar glasses, decanters, etc? Don't have an opinion about age. Why can't you ask for more info?
