I can't find any information or other pieces like this. It's a wooden carved face/head knife sharpener. I'd like to know the maker and the era it was made. The only markings are what looks like T.D. and the GARANTI. I know that is French for guaranteed. Any help would be appreciated. sharpener7.jpg sharpener6.jpg sharpener5.jpg sharpener4.jpg sharpener2.jpg sharpener3a.jpg sharpener1.jpg sharpener.jpg

The head/handle is probably something added, and not original to the sharpener. That metal piece between the handle and guard like section is crude.

Don't know if it's the same maker (but it seems likely), but if you google "TD Paris" you will find many cutlery items (also marked with 'garanti'). Didn't manage to find out what that TD means.

This looks like wooden to me. How does it sharpen?

I'd lean towards antler for the face.

Looking closer at his face with a loupe, I can see the face is carved separate from the wood and it does look to be bone, ivory or antler.

The top is wooden, the bottom is steel.

I wonder what the guy's nationality is? I can't find a similar helmet and I don't know if it's supposed to be chainmail around his face. Maybe Turkish? Google has no matching helmets.

That’s a very cool and interesting item. Face reminds me a little of Don Quixote.

Ottoman helmets do have chainmail, but this one looks like it has layered flaps. I'm sure there is a proper term for those.
    Maybe Tatar, Mongolian etc?
