The only food item I've ever served in wood is salad. I can't imagine putting a hot food inside if the interior is finished that same as the exterior. Does it look like there is room for a glass or metal insert? Is the inside finished or raw? Lingering scent?

It is possible there was an insert. If meant to be used as a bean or other pot. Maybe just for decoration? No scent or at least my nose is not smelling one.

Tureen is the word that pops into my head when I looked at it.

It reminds me of the Danish Modern things made of teak, though the style is a bit different. I'm not good enough with identifying wood to know if it's teak or not.

How big is it? How much would it hold? A pint? A quart? Half gallon? A gallon?:angelic:

That lighter colored round spot in the bottom looks like wear from an insert of some sort. But the inside rim that holds up the lid would have blocked insertion or removal of something that took up the entire space inside. Probably had something cylindrical, the width of the reduced opening - metal or ceramic, I would think.

I think it is an Asian rice server. I also do not think that it ever had an insert.
That is only my opinion, and you all know I can be wrong.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Still cannot find the same but very likely to be a rice server. Maybe more like Southeast Asia? Or Japan?
