Wood chair...spool, spindle, bobbin? Age?

    My latest desk chair. :) Acquired in Michigan, USA. I thought it rather unusual-looking.
    Would this be called a spool or spindle or bobbin chair? I'm not aware of the differences. Age? I was thinking 1930s/40s but possibly older? Seller thought her grandmother may possibly have stitched the needlepoint seat. Type of wood? Origin?
