At first, I thought this miniature woman carrying buckets was stone, then resin and then walrus tusk. I then realized I was over my head. It is signed on the bottom and under one shoe, but I can't figure out what it says except the 80 k. Here are my observations:
    1. She is highly polished.
    2. There are cracks and discolorations everywhere.
    3. There are distinct lines, some curved. - Note the photo of the unpolished bottom
    4. She is 2.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide.
    5. Her costume, scarf and face seem to have a distinctive characteristic.
    6. She feels heavy for her size.
I am completely lost. Any thoughts, opinions and comments would be appreciated.

Russian (USSR) The 11 p is for 11 Rubles with the cyrillic letter p and 80 kopeks ( 100 kopeks per ruble.) In the soviet era, prices were controlled and most items had the price printed or written on the item.

Excellent. I was getting the sense of Russian, but didn't know for sure. This was a skilled artist. He captured the woman well - her movement forward, the drape of her coat, and the steady endurance on her face.

Since Russia is a far distance from Africa and India, so perhaps the source was walrus?

Or mastodon/wooly mammoth. It doesn't look like elephant ivory.

They ask me at the shop to look over items that they have trouble with. Today, they presented me with 5 small figurines and I told them that they were soapstone and bone. Then they brought this one out. I spent 15 minutes pawing it up before I found the stuff etched in the bottom. It never went out in the store. I always thought it was older.

I get that way over my walrus bobcat - very satisfying to hold.

Palm size, fingers fit in the curves & quite a little chunk in the hand. If I were suddenly told I had to get rid of all my stuff, but could keep a few things, this would be on my keepers list.

I have nothing to add as to who, what, when & where but I will point out she is not carrying baskets. The 2 items appear to be wooden buckets.:happy::kiss:
