Woman face door knocker

Is this a repo or original old door knocker ?

My gut feel is that it is a recently-made item. I’m not sure it is a reproduction of anything made long ago, it could be a fantasy item. I’ve never seen an old door-knocker with that image. The brass seems a bit thin for anything expected to remain functional on the outside of a door for decades. No patina. Mediocre quality casting. No dimensions but unless that hand is gigantic, this item is a bit small to function effectively as a door-knocker, I don’t think anyone inside would hear it unless they were close to the door.

 

It also looks (in your hand) too small to be an older piece or even an effective door knocker.

I vote newer since the casting is so course. They used much finer sand in old time castings. I would mount it on a board just for decoration. I think it is beautiful.

I think its newish just because I dont think the victorians would have liked the screws showing. Maybe Billy has giant hands! Like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry dates a woman who had huge hands.

Small door knockers aren't all that unusual in Europe. Overhere yours is called Madeleine, a replica of a ca 1900 one.
