    Picked up this nice winchester ammo crate. It's 12 gauge and has 2-5/8 on it for the shell length.
    I was wonder if anyone knows how old it is? 3 pics front back and side.
    I love old rustic items like this.

    Your links are not working correctly. You might want to use the "Upload a File" option to host you images directly on the forums so they don't get lost. You may have to decrease the file size/crop to achieve that though.

    Ammo crates are desirable to collectors, I have been trying to get a Peter's Cartridges box/crate for a reasonable price for years but keep getting outbid.

    Try the 2nd and 3rd one I can see them. The first one doesn't work. I'll try to fix it.

    But it's new/fake. Even a blind man can see that.
    Now does anyone have an idea how old this crate is?
    No it's not a collectors item due to damage and missing parts.
    Just curious because of the 2-5/8" size of the shell.
    2-3/4" are the ones I'm familiar with so I figured the 2-5/8" would somewhat date it?

    "Enjoy this Winchester Ammo Box manufactured with embossed printing and original brass printing plates used in the early 1920's and 30's. Crafted with great attention to detail and specialty wood craftsmanship"

    Y'think , maybe there's a clue there as to the age of the original...?

    I'm not so blind yet that I can't read...........:meh::meh::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    I think that Winchester stopped making the 2 5/8 12 gauge shotgun shells after WWII.

    OK that helps. Before I bought this box today at the local gun show I never heard of 2-5/8" shotgun shells.
    I paid $20 for it.
    It looks nice with that rustic look that I like.

    Not an expert but a lot of the older ammo crates (pre-1930's) are of the open top variety. Those are the most desirable to collectors. I think the crate in the opening post in this thread is 40 or 50 years old. Not a reproduction but not particularly old in the grand scheme of things. Still somewhat desirable since anything gun related has collectors. Anyways $20 is a great buy and even the reproductions and knock offs sell for considerably more then that.

    Looking at the hinges I'd say later 70's - basing that on the same style hinges that are on the 1876-1976 Centennial reproduction Budweiser cases............
