    Hello,

I am new to the forum. Just picked up a William Tell cast iron bank and was curious on advice on how to appraise it? Trying to figure out also if it's real or repro?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Welcome!
Can you start a post about your bank, and show some photos?

Hit "Upload a File" on your next reply, select a pic from your PC and post it.

Ah! In the lower right at the bottom of the "reply" space, there is an "upload file" button.
You can load photos from your computer using this.
Then you have the option of "thumbnail" or "full size".
I mostly use the full size, but that's just me. :)
    Then just hit "Post reply".

Approx. 7" tall by 10" long by 3" wide. The son is standing in front of a castle. His right arm is not present. Much of the original paint is still present. Mounted on an oak wood base. It is mechanically sound and works fine. This bank was made by J E Stevens Co of Connecticut in the late 1800's. Cast Iron.

    $165 US ...in 2012......

The crosshead Phillips screws are a clue to its age.
    It is fairly modern.

It's completely cast iron and the right arm is present. It's just up in the pic. It comes down and brings the apple up on his head. All mechanically working.

    See fig.11 in this link.

Then scroll down to "Fasteners" and read about Phillips screws.
These repro banks were coming out of Viet-Nam in the late 80`s early 90`s by the container load, the market in the UK was flooded with them.

I think at that distance the apple is not the only thing to be blown apart! Eeegad!

Point blank --- Point-blank range is any distance over which the trajectory of a given projectile fired from a given weapon remains sufficiently flat that one can strike a target by firing at it directly.
