I just had to have this from tonight's auction. I love the color and wanted to remove the egret from the auction house before someone broke its neck, LOL! It's not marked. Does anyone know who made it and when? Also, what is that finish on the back of the bowl? (Can you tell I'm not a pottie?) BTW, that last word just got auto-corrected to "hottie", everyone knows that's not true, lol again! It measures 10 3/4" x 7" x 3" and the egret is 10 1/4" high. TY!

I love the color. I think that finish is often called spatter and sometimes I have seen it written as stucco. It's not the same spatter as you see on more rustic pottery because it is more dimensional. Lately at local auctions, pottery with that textured finish has gone quite high. Shawnee and McCoy called their similar finishes "confetti."

Very 60's. I like the lilac much better than the buff color on the other. Were there supposed to be 2 birds in the bowl?

Thanks so much everyone! I would imagine that the number of egrets was per individual taste. It might get a little crowded in the bowl. The original owner probably looked at the delicate neck and purchased a 2nd one, just in case, ya think? The lavender color is more striking than the buff, but that seller posted way better photos than mine. That's always been my biggest challenge. The photos make the bowl very compelling. I want to sell this one on line so I'll work on the photos. So the maker is California Originals? I also noticed that the buff colored bowl is glazed on the bottom, while the lavender one is not (in the oval center). Thanks again!

Love the lavender color. Purples are my favorite!

That finish is also sometimes called "weeping"... weeping white in this case. Looks good for California Originals. If not, somebody copied somebody else very closely.

It was probably sold as a set, like the one LauraGarnet linked, but one got broken.
The egrets weren't necessarily meant to sit in the bowl, but, since you have one, it looks nice that way.
