Who is the artist in this Painting

HI Guys... I picked this painting up while thrift store shopping. Does anyone know who the artists is? The painting comes from South Africa. Would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks

Apparently he was a popular artist in his time and his etchings were widely reproduced.

I just know: He is a listed artist at some of our main auction houses and his original works is sought after by both art collectors and auction houses and always sells for very good money. The original works are considered very good financial investments. You can also still buy certified copies of certain of his paintings and etchings.

It’s not very clear in the photo,but will my limited knowledge I won’t know anyway if Catherine’s etching is an original or not. The signature looks good,is it done in pencil hand or just a plain copy? Also looks like it has the correct mark/stamp.

Thinking back I was looking at a nicely framed copy of one of his famous paintings a few weeks ago (but decided not buy)
