I know that it is a first edition as it has an "A" on the copyright page, but I can't seem to find it online; or at least any pictures or textual description. Can someone please give me some information on this book please?

Here is a gallery with some images that will hopefully be helpful in identification: http://imgur.com/a/2LB3D

    Welcome!
First off... Are these pictures of your book?
Most of us will not go to links, too dangerous.
If they are of your book then put them in this thread and use the full image option please. :)
I have a first but it is not at hand.

King, I assume so. The pics were uploaded to Imgur 3 minutes before the post was put up here.

    Ok.
Being a library copy it is in trouble just for that reason alone.
That is probably why the cover is printed. It was probably without one from the publisher. Doubt it has much value.

So, it is a first edition copy; however, because it is a library copy (hence the cover which I could not locate online) it most likely does not have value?

Yes, ex library. Plus it has no dust jacket.

Does being an ex-library book automatically mean it's a dud? It seems like way back in the recesses of my memory, I've seen some decommissioned library books sell for good money on eBay.

Since this book has a picture board book cover (if that is the correct term?) did it also originally come with a paper dust jacket, too?

Not an expert, just chiming in with an opinion.

The book the OP is showing was special ordered for a library, probably for a school rather than a public library. I helped out in my son's school library one year. I remember the librarian talking about the covers being heavy duty because of the rough handling from children.

As for the term ex-library, I'm not sure that it means the heavy cover so much as being stamped with library name, and envelope glued in front. Often times the public library has the dust jackets covered in plastic and taped in.

    It's numbered on the spine.

If that's a "Dewey Decimal" indicator on the spine, its a bit off.............isn't the 480 classification ancient Greek or something?

I get the H of course............

If it's a school library book they may have had their own system.
Odd there's not a library stamp within or the 'withdrawn' stamp for that matter.

If from a public library there is undoubtedly a "rubber" stamp on the top margin of an interior page. Collier County Library in FLA always stamped page 28, another I can't recall used page 35.

And it may not have been formally withdrawn.............just never returned......................

    Might be a school's coding for a teacher's room.
Says copy 3. So there were at least 2 other copies.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

From the call number, I believe it's either a school library book or from a public library that used a system based on the author's last name. I believe the "H" at the beginning stands for Hemingway.

Library stamps are often on the top, bottom, or side edge of the text block (the block of pages of the book). They may also be in the other places listed. Some may be able to be removed in a way that you can barely tell they were ever there.
