What’s This Maya/Aztec Plaster? Thing

About 10 1/2 wide and 4” tall? Any idea what is it?

Trying to find replicas like mine for sale but no luck. Let me know if someone see any.
I wonder if mine is carved basalt too or molded whatever the material is?

Basalt is usually a darker color. From the scratches on the bottom of your piece, I would guess plaster if those are the two options.

 

Piedra de Tizoc, a nice touristic reproduction. I think it's plaster, slightly coloured to have those shades. I haven't seen reproductions of this stone but looks similar style to what is sold next to archeaological sites.

 

Hm, strange. If these were tourist pieces there should be plenty of them out there.

 

Not an exact replica of the stone of tizoc, so I started looking at other cuauhxicalli and found this article (which happens to be about tizoc, lol) that mentions replicas from 1919. Didn't read the whole article, but maybe some useful info here.

Apparently that's very famous, but I don't recall having seen it before.

 

Thanks. I linked the article in my previous posts. There is a plaster replica in the Haslemere museum and a wax copy in the British museum. Both old.
Seems like there is not an abundance of these so again, I don’t know if they were made for the tourist market.
The one that was for sale on Invaluable site, actually was low estimate and the lot did not sell.
So not sure how to read this. There are not a lot of the stone replicas around but at the same time not a collectible piece with high value?

Interesting that the Heslemere copy does not show the channel that runs from the top center. I think I did not find description what’s its purpose. That channel is also not present on the similar Stone Of Moctezuma I

does have the channel. They claim it’s ceramic but does not look like.

 

It is a sundial but what’s with the groove? Maybe for the blood to run down?
