i found this up the tip, no wonder someone threw it away, looked so grubby! Still after a whole load of silver cream i removed the dirt, tarnish and verdigris and it looks quite nice now(still need to get inside though).

Any ideas what its used for? I think to hold a glass bottle on a dressing table? Hallmarks for England 1901-2. 5cm high.

    Many thanks

At nearly 2 inches high (for our American posters) I would say it held a blue glass liner and was a Salt (just to annoy @Shangas )

Nice find, especially at the tip.

Local dialect, Ratsy is in Scotland, I`m in Yorkshire, same language different way of saying it.
Up the tip suggests the dump is just up the road

I'm not, if there's silver involved.(LOL) The local landfill has an area for items that still have life in them, and an area for metals aside from the regular garbage dump area for kitchen and bathroom waste. I'd have fished this out of the metal pile in a heartbeat.

No that`s South & West Yorks lingo.
I`m quite good at mimicking dialects so I could say it in Geordie, Brummie, Scouse , Aussie, Cockney or anywhere you like

Dutch? Or should I say Duts?:D
We love accents, and usually use specific accents for specific expressions. Some Dutch expressions sound best in a certain accent. Not just different Dutch accents, but also Indonesian, Moroccan, etc.
Same goes for other languages we know.

Quite right, its more of a recycling centre people can go to dispose of unwanteds of various materials, the staff sometimes choose to sell things rather than put then into skips, brings a little extra money to the local council. Ps i am from Dorset not Scotland

Third trip in a row i have found silver up there for pennies

Looks a bit like a wine coaster, but earlier suggestions more likely to be correct. Guessing circumference too small, for starters. Shield on one side must have been meant for engraving; the dancing putti are appropriate for boudoir or pour boire.

Are we back to tip again? Or should I say tipping (pourboire)?

Always nice to have someone who appreciates a bilingual pun. It was indeed meant as a tip, although not the kind you give your server.
