What's It For? Any clues on this cast iron base?

Certainly not a fancy find, but wondering to what exactly, this went...era/what for, etc. Searched many bases for gum ball machines, tables, hat stands, even lamps. Do you think the wood part was probably an add-on? Thank you all in advance! P1160778 800.jpg P1160711 800.jpg P1160712 800.jpg

You don't give a height, but it may be the base for a smoking stand.............or as you mention, the base may be from a lamp (or other) and it was re-purposed with the wooden addition...................

About 36" tall overall; base is about 10-11". Thanks Mansons, had not considered a smoking stand, off to the interwebs!

Believe it is lamp base. Would have had an additional metal part on top. It is also possible that the wood has been cut down a bit. Wood usually is turned with threads and screws in to the base. Here is a similar one as a bridge lamp but have also seen straight up floor lamps.

Sundial base. I have its twin in my garden with an armilliary sphere on top.
