What would a tray this shape be for?

Any thoughts on what this oddly shaped tray might be for? It's huge, 21 ½" long.

Reminds me of the mirhab shaped samovar trays or possibly the keyhole shaped trays.

My apologies, I snapped the photo on my phone (first time trying that) on my way home and then something came up and I just got in. I've looked it over and I can't find a mark unless this little bit on the rim is one but I suspect it's just a joint. Nice deep pattern though.

Now that you've mentioned samovar, there was a large old samovar in very bad shape in the same thrift not long ago. Of course it was in a different part of the shop and I didn't even think of that. Next time I'm there I'll have to see if it's still around somewhere and if it matches. I had wondered if it might have gone into a table or something.

Davey are you serious or just kidding? I think you and a buddy could maybe sit with it between you.

 

Holy smokes these photo have made it into Google images already! I was doing some more looking at trays and was shocked to find my photos were already visible on a search. Wowie that was fast!
