    Hi,
    What style would you call this brooch? It’s marked 10k and those are small diamonds The clasp looks early 20th century to me

    It isn't Etruscan Revival, no granulation.
    I wonder if the two Algerian knots were originally earrings.
    Looks like the clasp is an early safety clasp, which was introduced in the 1890s.

    Sash buckle originally? I wonder if the design at least wasn't reused.

    It looks like the center spinny thing had two prongs removed, and the rosettes were soldered over the prong scars. Either someone reused the buckles in stock after they went out of style, or someone got clever and reused two broken items to make a new one.

    Knot jewellery is thousands of years old, and it often had to do with 'tying the knot'. Tying the knot either meant tying hands together with rope, or tightening a knotted handkerchief which held coins.
    So a knot can be called a lovers' knot.

    Algerian sailors used to make intricately knotted rope art to give to their sweethearts. That is why more intricate knots, like the ones on this brooch, are often known as Algerian knots.
    They became very fashionable after Napoleon's North African campaign, because among the things he brought back were those intricate Algerian knot decorations.
