Featured What stone are these earrings?

Hello,

I picked up these earrings and I was wondering what the stone might be? The stone has a green/ blue line through it and so I don't think it is amethyst. I did wonder about blue john but know that's rare, so perhaps not likely, any thoughts? TYIA.

They are very sweet. I agree the stone is fluorite, and it could be Blue John.

Blue John often has a hint of yellow in it (Blue John = bleu-jaune), but that isn't always the case. I have never seen it with green.

 

Stick a UV on it, hm?

 

For those such as myself who did not know, Blue John is a rare form of fluorite. (Thanks to Wikipedia.)

Yay, I was hoping it was but I have never had it before, so I wasn't sure. I will try your UV suggestion tomorrow as I'm out and about and been looking at jewellery in museums today....always a fun and sparkly time!

I'd say GIMME THAT. It's fluorite for sure and the Blue John form since Bear/Smaug says so. I think I have one small piece here somewhere.

 

I'm sure it will fluoresce beautifully.
