What sort of printing process?

    It's not one I recognize, but it does look mass market.

    Im sure it is..

    I didn't recognize it myself.
    It does have a plate mark around the edges, but I've read they'll do that to give the illusion

    Looks like Halftone screen printing. Depending on fineness required it was gauged as DPI ( dots per inch), so newspapers were not many dots per inch.
    That said there are some areas here that look solid here on your Aldin print so it's a bit of an oddity. May be a combination of halftone or a silkscreen printing.
