    Thanks guys. My first thought was bamboo, but I've never seen the brown areas in bamboo before (though living in Pennsylvania, it's not like I have a ton of bamboo laying around...lol.)

    LOL, yeah, it might be different where Davey is, i dunno but, here in the Carolinas it's kinda a big deal, same for Kudzu. Some plant it for ground cover soon to discover that it takes over EVERYTHING! including your house!

    Its at my Dads place, he bought it intending for it to spread for use as a dense screen.

    Yeah, i bet! Where i am in Charlotte it is sub-tropical & some of these asian plants once they get going, folks REALLY regret it! So much so we have businesses to assist homeowners who find themselves in a situation in trying to control or eliminate these plants as they have got overwhelmed.

    Hi,
    I learned the hard way. If you plant bamboo and do not want it to spread, the secret is to plant it in large plastic buckets with the bottoms removed. I had 10 or 12 bushes very full planted in the buckets and they did not spread. My FIL planted two bushes next to his chain link fence. They spread all over his back yard, the side yard and 30 feet into the neighbors yard. I told him to use the buckets but he was in a hurry. When he sold his house 12 years ago, the new owner is still trying to kill the dang stuff.

    We do that here as well. Bamboo is notorious. The climate where Davey is, is not that different from ours, so there may be trouble ahead....

    LOL, Fred & Ginger, man could they DANCE! Yeah, agrees on bamboo thingy, it will give a privacy screen FAST! but trouble is, it won't STOP!
