Modern ceramic piece from thrift, I just thought the botanical transfer was amazing.

Any idea what kind of flower -- boxwood?

My first thought was magnolia. The leaves are a bit different though - artistic version?

    Could be Magnolia, thanks.

Yes, the piece really caught my eye. It is modern, not sure it if is a reproduction of something or not. Thanks for taking a look.

Lovely drawing. Could it be dogwood?

Argh. I bet that is it! I said "Boxwood" meant "Dogwood". Thanks!

Mottahedeh does do wonderful work. And their items often are pricey. Sounds like you got a great buy if it was from a thrift store.

I vote no on the dogwood, but I don't have anything better to offer. The petal shape, center of the flower, leaves--all wrong.

I have a Japanese leaf dish of exactly the same shape, but the bottom is different.

That does seem to be the same plant, Janet. Thanks. So "exotic plant".

And Moreother, yes that is the same shape. Same folds on the side, interesting!

    Janet came through again!

Replacements has several in the series listed. Apparently the series was "The Exotic Plant" and there were different plants on different pieces. Your piece is not illustrated. http://www.replacements.com/webquote/MOTEXP.htm

Possibly one of the Clematis Vines?

I wondered about clematis too, but I can't see any tendrils and the buds are the wrong shape.

    Hibiscus maybe?

Leaves aren't right, and no big visible stamens, so I'd say not.
