what kind of carpet?

dear all

what would one call this kind of carpet? i am thinking of listing it (and wondering if it is correct to call it persian/middle eastern/oriental with dessert scene? synthetic/cotton? hand made/machine made? carpet. it is 19 1/2" by 37 1/2" and dates to before WWII.

Good morning, Phaik! I wouldn't call this either Persian or Oriental (based on the scene itself.) I usually associate camels with North Africa, but that doesn't mean that's where it was made. "Middle Eastern" is probably sufficiently vague.

Looks machine made, but I have no sense of age. Maybe someone else will.

And it's "desert" not "dessert." I doubt it would be tasty.

It doesn't look like a carpet, but a tapestry, wall hanging. Machine made, the age could be right, but these are still being made.
The scene looks Egyptian or Middle Eastern, but it could have been made anywhere. I've seen these in our local Turkish restaurants, they love tapestries on the wall.

 

My uncle brought a few of these home after WW II. Made for the tourist trade.
