What kind of cabinet?

I have been looking for a good antiques message board. My husband and I love antiquing. We have some pieces that we are researching the background on. Thought this sight may help us, plus we enjoy looking at what others have found. We recently purchased this beautiful cabinet and were told by the dealer that it came out of a hardware store. My folks, who are avid antique collectors, think it's more likely a piece of office furniture. Anyone know? It's 5 foot tall, 3 foot wide and 24" deep. The drawers have a full bottom, no card file bottom.

 

Haven't we already seen this and commented on it?

I think it is some kind of retail cabinet. Could be from a hardware store but they are usually more utilitarian and more beat up than this. I am thinking more like notions or some other retail that would sell lots of small things. Remember, back in the day, most shopping was assisted by a clerk. The public wouldn't necessarily have access to the merchandise. A cabinet like this would be behind the counter and a clerk would retrieve merchandise from it to show to a customer.

 

I had posted it on the introduction board. It was suggested I put it on the furniture specific board to get more looks. I'm sorry I'll remove it. Obviously I don't have a clue how these boards work. Sorry, I just went with the suggestion from someone that I thought knew. Going to go delete it now.
