What is this?

buttons.....?

 

These remind me of crochet-covered "buttons." Not in the flat form of button we see most commonly, of course, but definitely more "decorative."

 

Looks like there is human hair inside of it

 

When you hold them by two fingers and apply pressure inwardly, do they "squish" Or are they hard?
