Want to do some on this chair that is offered for sale at €50 in a charity shop, so would appreciate some help pointing me in the right direction. Sorry the photographs are so small, they are all I have. I expect the prints are too small to make a guess at the wood. Jolly comfortable to sit in. Thank you.

It is a curule chair. We call it a Dagobert chair, after the 'Throne of King Dagobert' which supposedly belonged to a Frankish king.

In the UK we generally call these an x-frame chair so it is worth searching for this term as well, curule tends to be used for a backless version of this style here.

Edit: Just to add 50E (Brexit seems to have nicked my Euro symbol, sorry ) seems like a decent price for a well made x chair even if it's a relatively modern reproduction.

Thank you @Any Jewelry you're a great educator. You got me delving into a history I knew nothing about.

Never went beyond school history - the Kings and Queens of England; the great battles we won; our heroic colonialists, and fearless privateers. Not very inspiring; but no doubt my great-grandchildren will be inspired as they are taught about the patriotic brexiteers who lead their fellow citizens out of Europe and in to penury.

Sorry about the rant. I'm really grateful for your information, and to all the other members of Antiquers.

x-frame chair, a good technical description, even if it lacks imagination (I say that as a born and bred British citizen). I read that in Italy it is a Roman chair.

I will give it a good examination when next I visit the shop, and see if it is in good condition. Assuming it is still there. Thanks @Ci BCA.

Also Savonarola and Dantesca or simply Dante in Italy.
