What Is This Lion?

    My friend who clears estates handed this off to me because she thought it may be automotive...I don’t believe it is.
    I’m wondering if it was made to mount onto a furnishing or stove or something. She gave me another with it that’s pretty clearly a recast. It has a brighter, brassy finish and is identical but is less “crisp”.
    It looks like part of a number on his belly, it’s pretty oxidized.

    I guess the fact that someone took the time to recast it makes me keep going back to the idea that it’s a “fitting” or finish piece for something that people wanted to restore at some point. I suppose depending on what you mounted it onto it could be a bookend?
