Part of a set. Machine made. Don't know where they were from, France? Belgium? American?
    I'm guessing from the 1920s-30s.
Don't know if they were coasters, madagascar sets, or something else.

I used to find them fairly frequently back in the 70s and 80s. I resold them as doll house rugs.

I'm sure someone will be along with a more accurate answer.

6Rivets is needed here. They were frequently used under wobbly lamps, or hot dishes.

    Peculiar things...

Not really woven - sort of a machine punch embroidery.

But not a trivet because it has no legs, much less three. ;)

In my neck of the woods, we called it a hot mat and reserved the T word for things with 3 feet. But whatever.:)

Yeah, I'd call it a hot mat and not a trivet, but you're right about different parts of the country having different names for things.

We call them a hot pad. But these are more along the lines of a doily. It would go under a vase or a glass bowl or the like.
